Murphy's Law

Retrograde Mercury is the most commonly known astrological signature for Murphy's Law ("If something can go wrong, it will") It happens 3 times a year and it lasts for about 3 weeks. This time is from May 27 to June 19, 2008. Then from September 24 to October 15, 2008 and then from January 11, 2009 to February 1, 2009.

Computers crash, software develops unexpected glitches, traffic jams ensue, telephone service snarls up, letters get lost on the mail, machinery breaks down, new projects fail. Ah, yes, the trickster Mercury is up to his old pranks again.

In general the effect of Mercury retrograde is annoyance. Little things get snarled up and a low-grade frustration emerges. Anything involving communications, verbal activity, technology, short trips and journeys, primary education, and siblings can be affected.

What is this Mercury retrograde period good for?

It is definitely a very good period for some actions. No time is completely bad for anything, there is a reason in everything happens.

The key is the reversed direction of movement: take any known Mercurian action, reverse its flow, consider the keywords "re-doing something", "double-checking", "finish the old projects" and there you are, you've found the good side of Mercury retrograde.

Above all, be generous and compassionate: you are already aware about the influence of this period, but the others aren't aware of it or there may be uncontrollable events. That's why you should have more diligence with the others and give them some more time. It'll be your mental health that you'll be sparing actually.

Sex and the City Film

Three friends and I went to see the cult film Sex and the City last night at the sneak peak preview. To be honest I had no expectations for this film which is a great way to walk in, all I really wanted to see was the fashion and style. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! The film was predictably unpredictable. However if you see the trailer it ruins the film just to give you a heads up.

"Get Carried Away" is the tag line which is quite suiting to the movie. She wears some brilliant outfits. Including a fashion show for her friends of 80s style clothes that is funny. I think my favourite dress was a long multicoloured that she wears when Big has cold feet about the wedding. Her vintage wedding dress was also beautiful. I could go on and on about the style but I will let you see for yourself.

People watching was something that was pretty interesting at this film, my friends and I were an hour early so we could get good seats. I brought some French fashion magazines and we sat and style watched as everyone came in. There was a wide range of style from people dressed to the nines to others who looked like they rolled out of bed to show up. Halifax is a crazy city!
One surprising thing that happened during this film was that I really liked Big. Throughout the whole series I really did not like him and did not think he was good for her, but they seem very much suited for each other in this film and it's very nice to see them together. I still miss Aden though.

I really enjoyed this film on many levels. It was like a spa for the brain! I highly recommend it to those who watched the series on HBO and to anyone who wants a good laugh and some great fashion.

Yoga Straws?

I had to share this with you!

A very cost-effective advertisement in Hong Kong for a yoga school. It showcases the prowess of a yoga practitioner on the flexible stems of drink straws. A surge of enquiries and enrollment went after up this promotional stunt.

Pencil Case

I just started sewing and last night I made my first sewing project; A pencil case for my good friend G's birthday.

I made it from a vintage red wool coat that I tore apart and vintage buttons. Originally it was suppose to be bigger but it ended up being the size it is for reasons I don't want to get into.

I think this project went well considering I haven't used a sewing machine since high school and it is not easy putting a zipper in anything! Hope G loves it!

Eat, Pray, Love

Well I am at work waiting to head home so I have some time to write something. I guess I could talk about a book I have read lately. It's called Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I have to say this book was food for my soul! Elizabeth writes honestly about her travels to Italy, India, and Indonesia. This book had me laughing out loud more times than I can remember.

Her travels reminded me of my traveling days and because of that I could relate to her story. But I think any woman could, she talks about being heartbroken and her journey back to love.

The book is full of little tidbits of wisdom and knowledge that she gathers from her travels. When she is in Bali she becomes friends with Ketut the Medicine Man who has no idea how old he is so everyday she asks him he just says the age he is feeling, I think we could all learn from that.

My favourite part of the book was Pray where she goes to India and stays at an ashram and studies Yoga. This has inspired me to want to go to India and take part in something like this, I guess we shall see.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves travelling, yoga, eating or is just in search of a book to inspire you.
