The Best Things in Life

The Cove

My Hunny and I watched this documentary last week and I can't stop thinking about it and telling everyone I see. It is just as sad as the Sharkwater one we watched last time he was home. Something has to be done about how animals are treated in this world, it makes me extremely sad to watch these films as I hope it does you. But I feel it very important for every ones education to know what goes on in this crazy world of ours. I don't understand where humans get off thinking that they can treat other animals however they please just because they are stronger and "smarter" then them. I hope you watch this film and intern somehow make a difference weather its just becoming a fan of this film on Facebook or doing one of the top 5 things you can do now on this website. Please watch this film and let me know your feelings.

From The Cove website:

Academy Award® Winner for Best Documentary of 2009, THE COVE follows an elite team of activists, filmmakers and freedivers as they embark on a covert mission to penetrate a remote and hidden cove in Taiji, Japan, shining a light on a dark and deadly secret. Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras in fake rocks, the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide. The result is a provocative mix of investigative journalism, eco-adventure and arresting imagery, adding up to an unforgettable story that has inspired audiences worldwide to action.

Little Black Dress

One thing Sarah Jessica Parker isn't is Carrie Bradshaw. This is a disaster! Although somehow because she is wearing it it is a bit more bearable. Whatever was she thinking?!?!

A Sprig of Parsley in Your Toga

Parsley is an herb most associated with the month of March, as it grows in abundance at this same time of year. From the holistic perspective, many practitioners will advocate chewing on parsley if you're plagued by halitosis or bad breath. And, not to be cheeky, but an old wives remedy recommends soaking parsley in water and swishing it around your mouth if you have a tooth that's loose. But did you also know that eating parsley is also believed to provoke a lusty libido and enhance fertility? The ancient tales tell that in earlier times the Romans would tuck a sprig of parsley into their togas each morning in order to promote its personal protective and sexual enhancing properties. They also garnished their food plates with parsley in order to safeguard from poisoning, a tradition that carries on to this day. In Feng Shui lore, parsley is often used in purification efforts, particularly in purifying or cleansing baths. Soaking in this lore, bathing in parsley is believed to ward off evil and put an end to misfortune and bad luck. If you want to change both your fortunes and your luck, add two cups of Epsom salts and a handful of fresh parsley to your bath. Soak in that for at least twenty minutes in order to cleanse and clear you aura as well as to send bad juju and the evil eye literally down the drain!

Ticket to Ride

Last Saturday the weather was a balmy 15 degrees Celsius in the Annapolis Valley so we decided to take the bike for a tour to the shore! This was the first time I was on the back of this bike, let me tell you it is fast and when it was over my hair was a MESS and Ryan may have had some bruises from me holding on to him so tight. It was quite fun though and Ryan really wanted pictures of him and his bike or his "baby" as he likes to call her. I have a feeling there might be more "babies" of this kind in the future for him which is kind of scary for me. I can't wait to learn how to drive a less powerful one of these:)

I miss you

I have to drive my hunny to the airport tonight and he leaves in the AM:( We had a wonderful week! He cooked me a four course meal on Saturday night with Crab Bisque, Scallops, Lobster and my fave ice cream and wine! Sunday he finally took me for a ride on his motor bike to the shore! I will post pics next week. (You should have seen how knotty my hair was after that ride!) And we relaxed, watched films and had lovely dinners the rest of the week! I am really sad he has to leave again:(
I am going to a conference about decoding the teenage brain on Saturday which should be super exciting! I love learning about brain research! And will relax on Sunday and hopfully go for a long run! What are you up to this weekend?
I hope you have a fun weekend my lovelies!

Critical Reminders

Can you imagine if you got one of these emails? It would be hard to wrap your head around the details in it, I would be interested to hear what this person from the future had to say. What do you think you would do if you got a letter from your future self?

F-U Asthma!!!

I started training for a 10k road race a few weeks ago. I love running it is so great for stress relief, thinking about all of life's problems and puzzles, and is amazing exercise! But I have bad asthma that slows me down quite a bit if I don't take my puffer properly. I try to have the same attitude as this post from Post Secret, Fuck you Asthma! I can do anything, you can't slow me down! I will keep you all posted on how well my race goes. Do you love running or would you like to start? I would love to hear some of your running stories!

Sweet thing

Cookies and Cream Cheesecake Cupcakes

As we know I love all cupcakes! When I saw these at Handle the Heat I knew I had to have them-it was love at first sight! What could be better than Oreo cookies, cream cheese in cupcake?!?!

Cookies and Cream Cheesecake Cupcakes
From Martha Stewart's Cupcakes
Makes 30 (Note: I halved this recipe and it was very easy, 30 of these cupcakes would surely be the death of me)
  • Ingredients:
  • 42 cream-filled sandwich cookies, such as Oreos, 30 left whole, and 12 coarsely chopped
  • 2 pounds cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Pinch of salt
1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees. Line standard muffin tins with paper liners. Place 1 whole cookie in the bottom of each lined cup.

2. With an electric mixer on medium high speed, beat cream cheese until smooth, scraping down sides of bowl as needed. Gradually add sugar, and beat until combined. Beat in vanilla.

3. Drizzle in eggs, a bit at a time, beating to combine and scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed. Beat in sour cream and salt. Stir in chopped cookies by hand.

4. Divide batter evenly among cookie-lined cups, filling each almost to the top. Bake, rotating pan halfway through, until filling is set, about 22 minutes. Transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Refrigerate at least 4 hours (or up to overnight). Remove from tins just before serving.

Enjoy and let me know how they turn out! I can't wait to make some:)

My boyfriend sent me this photo because we are buying vintage motorbikes and driving across Canada next summer. He named it Ryan and Sandy! which I think is so cute:) He might be buying this bike but I wonder if he is going to get us white pants, red sweaters and red helmets to go with it? So very exciting! This photo makes me smile!

Gossip Girl xoxo

Serena: Did I tell you that he texts me every night before he goes to sleep? It's so sweet.
Blair: Sexting is not sweet. It's off-limits until you're in a relationship.

How excited am I that GG is back on Monday nights! There are very few programs that I can't miss and this is one of them! I love that Serena and Nate are together, I have a huge crush on him, however I don't think this one is going to last long:( Can't wait to watch tonight! PS Love Serena's sweater dress and tights!

Happy Monday!

Today is the first day of March Break and Spring is in the air! I have the whole week off:) I have plans to visit friends and my hunny gets home on Friday! I am also going to see a physic on Thursday, I will let you know how that goes! Such a great week!

One Week

One Week makes me want to buy a motorbike and travel across Canada! This a brilliant Canadian film that makes us look at what really matters to us. I highly recommend everyone watch it!

From IMDB:

Ben Tyler (Joshua Jackson) has been diagnosed with cancer. With a grim chance of survival in the best case scenario even if he immediately begins treatment, he instead decides to take a motorcycle trip from Toronto through the Canadian prairies to British Columbia. Along the way, he makes new friends, reevaluates his relationship with his fiancée Samantha (played by Liane Balaban), his job, and his dream of becoming a writer, and, after suffering some near-death experiences, learns to appreciate life.

So Close Your Eyes

I love all things Joni Mitchell and every time I hear this song it makes me sad and happy at the same time. This is the song a much more handsome James Taylor wrote for Joni Mitchell and I would like to dedicate it to my hunny...

Well, the sun is slowly sinking down, the moon is surely rising. This old world must still be spinning round, and I still love you!

So close your eyes. You can close your eyes it's alright. I don't know no love songs. I can't sing the blues anymore, but I can sing this song, and you can sing this song when I'm gone!

Well, it won't be long before another day, and we're gonna have a good time. No one's gonna take that time away, and you can stay as long as you like!

So close your eyes. You can close your eyes it's alright. I don't know no love songs. I can't sing the blues anymore, but I can sing this song, and you can sing this song when I'm gone!

places on earth

I would love to have a map like this to show where my feet have taken me around the world. It is a print of a hand drawn map of the world with pins so you can show your past travels and your future dream destinations:) I first saw this at the lovely blog unruly things and had to share with you!

Oh Canada!

With the Olympics closing yesterday and Canada winning the most Gold metals and most importantly the Women's and Men's hockey gold-it is great to be Canadian! The men's gold metal game last night nearly made me have a heart attack! Crosby scoring in sudden death overtime! You can't get better hockey and of course our hometown hero Sidney Crosby pulled through for us again! This game will be talked about for years to come! What is your favourite Olympic moment from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics?
